Our logo -
Images are important. When kindness is as common as butterflies in a field of flowers on a summer day,
there will be peace on earth. An everyday object takes on symbolism based upon our life experience. A
child’s hand and a butterfly are prevalent objects, which share universal meanings in every culture.
The outstretched hand is a token of both giving and receiving the gift, representing the life journey
which calls us inward to deeper understanding and sends us outward in the expression of service.
The butterfly represents freedom, beauty, energy, and spontaneity as it dances in flight.
In 1961, Edward Lorenz made an important discovery that he named the “Butterfly Effect.” As an astute
meteorologist and mathematician he was conducting experiments to try to forecast weather in predictable and
reliable ways. During the course of one experiment, he wanted to see the outcome over a longer period of
time so he used the data he had received at the middle of the original run as the new starting point for the
next experiment. Naturally, he expected the computer to repeat the last half of the first experiment and
then provide him additional data for the longer period of time. To his surprise when he returned, the results
had started out to be identical, but then slowly began changing over the course of time and ultimately came
up with an entirely different weather system. The differences were unintentionally caused when he had entered
rounded off numbers (to the nearest ten thousandth) into the computer. The two numbers were so close that he
had not anticipated it would make a difference in the solution. This finding, also called the chaos theory,
changed the way the scientific community viewed science forever.
The “Butterfly Effect” was the famous phrase chosen to demonstrate that the tiniest of variables have
tremendous consequences. Something as seemingly insignificant as the flap of one butterfly, when magnified
over time and space changes the entire weather pattern across the globe. Imagine then, what you are capable
of doing when you choose to focus on kindness!

Kindness Around the World!
Nebraska, USA -
Did you know that it's far easier for the average
ten-year-old to think of more rude things that happen in the course of the day than kind things? That's what a fourth grade class discovered when
they began their Kindness Campaign. They also discovered that each
individual has the power to change behavior simply by thinking kind thoughts and
doing kind actions.
Their Kindness Campaign was integrated within the
daily curriculum. One activity included making posters illustrating their
concept of kindness which were then hung in the local businesses
spreading the message to the general public. Six months later, many of the
posters are intentionally still hanging to encourage the business' patrons to
share kind actions.

The class also hosted Dr. Sherri Kirkpatrick, Graceland
University, when she came and presented on being kind through education and
empowering people to help make their world a better place through
establishing local health care workers in developing countries. |
The class finished out the school year by wearing their Kindness T-shirts as
their uniform for the school track meet which prompted everyone in the stands to
talk about kindness and the difference it can make.

A hand-made paper and pressed flower butterfly card made by
the Oasis workshop, a place for people with special needs, was received from
Jerusalem where Jean proclaims, "Kindness is Spreading!"
To the adults of the area who have lived
their lives with the promise of peace and the reality of violence, the
Kindness Campaign appears to be especially significant in defining a new
process of interaction. To the children of the House of Hope School
where a Kindness Campaign has been initiated, Arab and Israeli youth
experience together what it means to live and learn in a kind environment. |

The College Park Congregation held a Vacation Bible
School where they created a service project involving the Kindness Campaign.
They knew of requests for supplies from all over the world from people who
need supplies, but can't afford them. So, they did something about it.
They chose a group and its need and shared kindness through giving of their
resources to people they had never met. Their partnership was with people
in Tahiti. During the course of the Bible School, they learned about
the culture and geography of the island and collected funds to send supplies
to the children in a land far, far away.
The Vacation Bible School was small and they
wondered if they could reach their goal, but they ended up exceeding the
goal and brought in $250 for the partnership. Shirley, the
coordinator, commented, "At the grand announcement time on the final
evening, we all gave thanks to God for all the 'lights' that had given and
made a way for love and kindness to go to an island called Tahiti. It
was really quite special."
There are always outstanding requests for
supplies. We do accept private and corporate donations so materials can go to places in need. For more information, please
use the "contact" button and you will receive direct communication. |

Discovery - It has been amazing to note that children have a direct link in their
hearts and minds between kindness and other principles. The T-shirts were
designed as a sort of coloring page so the kids could choose the skin tone
of the hand and decorate the butterfly however they wanted using permanent
markers, fabric colors or paints. They’ve done that, plus used the entire shirt
as their "billboard" to display different images commonly associated with peace
and harmony.
Shirt includes the Kindness Campaign logo
surrounded with the phrase "Simply be kind," in many languages.
